Casarrubias_MesquiteAssigment#5

  • What kind of photos did I expect from the assignment?
I was trying to take an overall picture of the Edgewood ISD Central Building building. I wanted to capture the elements that make up an educational building.
  • What worked?
What worked for me was that I was able to capture the flags, the name on the building, and the sign about their current campaign.
  • What did not work?
What did not work for me was that although I got most of the building's name, the bushes and poles were on the way. Plus there were some birds flying around.

  • What could have been better?
I believe that maybe the picture could have been a little brighter.

Mesquite Assignment 1_Luna, Jennifer

Housekeeper Monica Aguilar cleans the women's restroom twice a day at Texas A&M-San Antonio Brooks-City Base. She has been working for the university for over two years. Photo by Jennifer Luna
  • What kind of photos did I expect from the assignment?
I was trying to take the most active photos I could around campus. The housekeeper was nice for letting me shoot photos while she cleaned.
  • What worked?
I liked the exposure, considering there was a lot of white, and florescent light there is still detail.
  • What did not work?
I guess this photo is not the best photo, or visually appealing photo, but there's really no activity in Brooks campus.

  • What could have been better?
I was trying every angle to make this photo interesting, maybe if she was cleaning something else it could've been better than the white sink.

Ramirez_Mesquite Assignment #6

Column Photo/Portrait Published Nov. 21

What kind of photo did i expect from the assignment?
This was my first portrait photo I've done for the mesquite. I expected to get a good angle of the person in the photo.
What worked?
I would say I did get a good portrait photo. The weather was nice so the lighting and exposure weren't to hard to manage.
What did not work?
I would have to that the person's height was the most difficult part. He was really tall so I had to switch to live view to get a better angle and shot.
What could have been better?
I think for the next time I need to work on angling the shot correctly. It took me several tries to get his whole face in the picture because of his height. I think that was the most difficult part for me.

Ramirez_Mesquite Assignment #5

Career Services Photo Published Nov. 21

What kind of photo did i expect from the assignment?
This photo was for a story that was published on the Mesquite about career services offered and A&M. Unfortunately we don't have an adviser right now to look over resumes and cover letters so in the article it talks about where and who you can talk to about this. I expected to get a photo of an office full of people helping or interacting with one another.
What worked?
Unfortunately since there isn't an advisor at the moment and the office that the advisor was previously in is empty it made it hard to get a picture of any action so I had to improvise. I took an angle shot to show were a place is at rather than just taking a photo of the sign.
What did not work?
I would have that the space and little action I had was very hard to work with but I managed.
What could have been better?
I think for the next time I do a photo I need to be prepared to always thing outside of the box because I might not be working with to much action or in a very little space.

Ramirez_Mesquite Assignment #4

American Marketing Association Club Monthly Fundraiser Published Nov. 21

What kind of photo did i expect from the assignment?
For this photo I was trying to capture the people in the photo in action. It was a booth for a fundraiser so their wasn't really much going on unless someone was buying something.
What worked?
I did get a photo of a lady buying sweet bread. The photo had alot of interactions, talking and exchanging money.
What did not work?
It was hard at first to get a photo of them not looking at the camera. The guy in the shirt was very politician, he kept on wanting me to capture him shaking someone's hand and smiling. I guess because he is also a new senator for SGA.
What could have been better?
I think for the next time I do a photo without much action I need to be quick to capture the little action there is. Be prepared with the right ISO and shutter speed.

West_MesquiteAssignment8

1. What kind of photos did I expected from the assignment?
It was noon and Jacob told us the mayor was coming to Brook City-Base at 2 p.m. and we needed a photographer. I expected the event to take place out in the open, not in a tent.

2. What worked?
It was dark in the tent, but not dark enough to not get good lighting. I just bumped up my ISO to 800-1600 with 1/80 and 5.6 settings.

3. What did not worked?
When I checked out a lens, I thought I checked out the 18-135mm. I actually had the 75-300mm which made it hard to get a full shot of all the speakers on the stage. Even though I was standing in the back, at the edge of the tent, I still wasn't able to get a full shot. I couldn't back up due to the number of people crowding the back.

4. What could have been better?
If I had a wide angle lens, if the event wasn't in a tent or if I had a flash, I would have possibly shot a better photo.

Mesquite Assignment #2- Jimenez

what kind of photo did you expect from the assignment?

As a former intern with Univision I expected to get some closure understanding the buildings historic significance I was a bit upset that the building was being demolished.

What worked?

The day outside was beautiful and sunny, so it was very easy to select the iso.

What did not work?

I parked somewhere I probably was not suppose to, and I was getting dirty looks from the construction workers, as I made my way around the buildings property.

What could have been better?

I think trying to get closer to the scene, and many of my other photos were out of focus.

what kind of photo did I expect   from the assignment?
face painted people  and traditional  dances

What worked
The lighting and where I stood to take the picture

What did not work?
Maybe could have been a little closer

What could have been better
Having the dance in a more open space

West_MesquiteAssignment 7

1. What kind of photos did I expected from the assignment?
I expected there to be more interns presenting to take photos of. Only one person showed up to talk.

2. What worked?
The number of people at the meeting helped fill the room and photos. If there were only five people in the room, the photo wouldn't look that good.

3. What did not worked?
It was hard to take a photo of the speaker's expressions and the audience expressions.

4. What could have been better?
If the speaker would have stood in the middle, I think I could have got better shots.

West_MesquiteAssignment 6

1. What kind of photos did I expected from the assignment?
I wanted to get closer to the fence but I was discouraged by the Danger sign, closed sidewalk and cop car next to the fence.

2. What worked?
I liked that the flowers were still on the fence, a week after the Univision's demolition.

3. What did not worked?

What didn't work was taking the photo from across the street with cars constantly going by.

4. What could have been better?
If I would have went a week early, when the activists were present, I would have got a better class.

Don't know how to do a screen shot on the computer...

  • What kind of photos did I expect from this assignment?

I expected to take photos of runners, and spectators. Unfortunately I was unable to do that because I didn't have access to the finish line.
  • What worked?
Getting the names of some of the runners was the most difficult, I was torn between getting a good shot and getting the information. Needless to say you can't have one without the other so you always need the info. In this case, there were stronger photos but there without the info it could not be published.
  • What did not work?
I was late to the race, so I couldn't make a photo story.
  • What could have been better?
Everything could have been better. Getting everyone's info that you photo, and be on time.

West_MesquiteAssignment5

1. What kind of photos did I expected from the assignment?
I expected to get more interesting shots.

2. What worked?
I really enjoyed taking photos but it was hard to get names of performers who used stage names instead.

3. What did not worked?

It was hard to create a photo story. I didn't even know where to start.

4. What could have been better?

I think I needed to create a better plan for our how to shoot a photo story at such a large event.

West_MesquiteAssignment 4

1. What kind of photos did I expected from the assignment?
I expected to get photos inside the maze but I didn't want to be a creeper.

2. What worked?
I really enjoyed taking the pizza photos. It was cloudy outside, so I got good lighting.

3. What did not worked?

What didn't work was trying to get everyone's names.

4. What could have been better?

For the slide photos, if I would have got closer and shut up the slide, I think I would have got a better photo. I was just being a chicken.

Thorpe_mesqiuteassinment#2

What kind of photo did I expect from the assignment.
I expected a good action shot since he was mowing the grass

What worked
The wide picture to get more action and to show what he was doing

What did no work
Getting to close to him while he was working

What could have been better.
If I could get him in the middle of doing more action

Thorpe_Mesquite assinment #1

what kind of photo did I expect from this assignment?
I kind of got what I expected from this assignment because its a interaction between an artist and the art.

What worked?
Higher and long viewed pictures to get the whole picture.

What did not work?
Up close of the artist and the art

What could have been better?
The angle of the picture if I was more to the right to get more of the art.

1.) What kind of photos did I expect from the assignment?
I expected to capture more famous people honestly, yet because i did not have a press pass i could not capture more interesting things.

2.) What worked?
That i was able to get clear shots overall.

3.) What did not work?
I got too many photos of shots that presented favoritism, instead of getting more people in action at the event. The majority of the photos were snapshots instead of useable photos.

4.) What could have been better?
I think what could have been better is that i came more prepared. Capture everything i could and to not be afraid to ask for information. Also learn to change my ISO and shutter speed, and to experiment more at being at events like these.

De La O_MesquiteAssignment3#

1.) What kind of photo did I expect from the assignment?
I did not expect being able to capture the relation with the father and son, and this was the perfect event as well. This event was the promote literacy for the youth, and i expected capturing not really anything because there were hardly any people attending this event.

2.) What worked?
I had a good ISO and shutter speed so that was not a problem. I love how they are scanning the scholastic book fair magazine together so it created some sort of bonding moment between the two.

3.) What did not work?
I think I wish i could have got the son reading an actual book from one of the shelves so that it was a little more obvious of being at the scholastic book fair.

4.) What could have been better?
I am actually not to picky about this picture because i am proud of it, and it was kind of the inspiration of capturing wild art. :)

http://www.mesquite-news.com/13379/?pid=140

De La O_MesquiteAssignment2#

1.) What kind of photo did i expect from the assignment?
I am happy with this picture because it showed action of the two girls talking. I did not expect to much from it because it was wild art. I saw a sign that said Guild of Geek bingo meeting so i just walked in the classroom as i pleased.

2.) What worked?
The action is my favorite part of this picture. I also love that i captured the information for the Guild of Geek bingo right in the back of them.

3.) What didn't work?
I think I should have used a better ISO and not have had such a slow shutter speed because it also kind of made the whiteboard almost negative of some sort and it was too bright.

4.) What could have been better?
I think what could have been better was finding out more information than just walking in on the meeting and being the random girl taking photos. It was difficult to get the information all at once.

De La O_MesquiteAssignment1#

1.) What kind of photo did I expect from the assignments?
I expected it to be much darker and not be able to get a photo at all, but because used a slower shutter speed I was able to receive a clear view of each panelists faces. During the assignment the room was dimmed through out the whole process, so I expected this assignment to be much harder.

2.) What worked?
I was happy that i was able to get a good view of the subjects, and that the color in the background added at least some depth.

3.) What did not work?
I think my only problem was the lighting, and it was a challenge to know how to work the camera especially in a conference environment.

4.) What could have been better?
If it were only a little bit lighter in the room, and if i had more experienced with the camera then. I think what I could have was get the panelists making hand gestures and showing some form of action between them.

1. What kind of of photo did I expected from the assignment?
I wanted a feature photo for this assignment. I was expecting to capture the activity that occurs on campus in a daily basis with as many elements as possible.
2. What worked?
What worked for me in this photo was that I was able to capture many elements that even if I did not have a cut line they could tell the story behind the photo. Aside the book, laptop, marker, and backpacks I was also able to capture the interaction among both students,
 3. What did not worked?
What did not work for me was maybe the brightness on my photo.  I believe that the photo could have been a little more bright or vivid.
4. What could have been better?
I believe that I could have played more with my settings to make the picture come more alive.
